I have been on a journey to read the entire Bible for the past four years. While I am super close, I still have a bit to go. I’ve finally made it to the book of Revelation. This is a book of the Bible I had never touched my entire 20 years due to the fear I knew it would bring me. But in reality, the first five chapters have been nothing but soothing to my breaking soul.
I have been struggling with a lot of hurt recently. I have been trying not to let myself get bitter, but I am only human. Within the first five chapters of Revelation, I have found calm in my storm. Especially in Revelation 3.
“I have placed before you a door that no one can shut.” -Revelation 3:9
“Hold on to what you have so that no one will take your crown.” -Revelation 3:11
Someone may have decided you weren’t good enough. Maybe that was an ex, or maybe an old boss, maybe a friend, or maybe even your family. They may have not said the words, “you aren’t good enough” but they certainly made you feel that way by casting you aside and writing off your abilities.
October was a hard month. I got rejection after rejection from internship opportunities. My sweet grandma and an old friend’s father passed away in the same week. My old depression and eating disorder were creeping back into my life. The enemy was using everything to twist the knife of a dagger already in my side. I felt hopeless and just darn depressed.
Then November came. I got FOUR job offers. I got back my joy. I got to use my gift of leading worship once again. And while the dead can’t come back to life, my God sure knows how to refresh my soul and my mind.
Other people may have shut you out or made you feel unwanted. But the Lord our God has placed a door before you that NO ONE can shut. Only God closes doors on your life. You are a child of God, you are ROYALTY. Don’t let anyone take your crown or make you feel less than. God has set before us a door and crown that cannot be taken or shut by anyone if we hold on to the Promise He has given us.
Whether you believe in God or not, this remains true even for you. Even for the one who has been rejected the most- His Word remains alive even today. NO ONE can shut a door without His will. You are watched over and protected by the one true King.
