I am not a beauty guru, nor do I claim to be. One look at one of my pictures and you can tell I don’t have the most “on fleek” eyebrows and half the time, I’m not even wearing makeup. I am, however, a makeup enthusiast. It’s not even that I like to wear tons of makeup. When I am done for the day, my makeup comes off immediately. I just find my beauty routine so calming and peaceful, it’s the perfect about of “me time” before I start my day. If you were curious as to what makeup products I use every day or are looking for some great, new products (oily complexions, you are more than welcome here), look no further! Here is what I use each and every day! x
Disclosure: I am a beauty affiliate for brands marked with an “AD” and while this is a #ad post, I genuinely love and adore all of these products. xx
STEP ONE: MOISTURIZE + HYDRATE
Yes, I do have an oily complexion, but here’s a tip for all of you ladies (and guys): you still have to moisturize. Shocking, I know. But lucky for you, I use products that don’t encourage oil and still soothe my skin without drying it out. (Products are listed in order of my usage.)
Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs, and Rosewater- This is my absolute favorite part of my makeup routine. I spray this on after washing my face before I put anything else on. It soothes any irritated skin and helps combat redness. It also smells like a rose petal dream. Wait to dry before applying moisturizer.
YesTo Cucumbers Soothing Eye Gel- I have pretty sensitive eyes, they don’t like a lot of product going near them (especially eyeliner) so they can always use a little cooling. This eye gel hydrates and refreshes my eyes while providing a wonderful, cooling sensation.
Garnier SkinActive Refreshing Gel-Cream- This is my go-to moisturizer forever and always. It helps provide exactly what us combo/oily people need. It doesn’t feel thick or greasy and, just like it says in the name, it’s insanely refreshing.
NYX First Base Primer Spray- After I moisturize, I spray this allll over my face and neck to help set my makeup. Let it dry completely before applying makeup.
STEP TWO: BASE
I’ve got an oily face and I also have a decent amount of *adult* acne. This means I use a lot more base products than the average person probably does (and a lot more layers of it). I like my base coat a little heavier because of this, so if you’re a person who doesn’t like foundation or just wants the bare minimum, feel free to skip this.
Peter Thomas Roth “Skin to Die For” No-Filter Mattifying Primer & Complexion Perfector AD–The title alone describes everything I could possibly need in a liquid primer. This product is great for blurring my pores and some of the imperfections I have on my face. This is a new “must” in my makeup routine. I use the MakeupDrop silicone applicator for application. Click the Peter Thoms Roth link in the sidebar for a discount!
E.l.f. Tone Adjusting Face Primer AD– I have a really red, uneven skin tone. I have tried green concealers, but this does the right amount of coverage that I actually want. I use the MakeupDrop silicone applicator to put it all over my face (only need one pump). It helps lighten the red in my skin without making me look like Shrek.
Revlon Colorstay Concealer in shade #02 Light- I’ve used this concealer for years. It may not provide the best coverage, but it’s a great alternative to paying $30 for a concealer. It lasts much longer than other concealers in this type of tube as well. This range from Revlon is for combo/oily skin. I usually go over any blemishes twice and once under my eyes.
Neutrogena SkinClearing Foundation in shade #20 Natural Ivory- I usually change my shade depending on if I have actually gone out in the sun or not. This is my “I haven’t seen the light of day in 4 months” shade. I love this foundation and I don’t think I will ever use another one. It stays on all day. Part of that is thanks to my primer and finishing sprays, but this is a first for me with foundation. It also doesn’t soak into your pores the way other liquid foundations tend to do. I love the coverage. I use the MakeupDrop silicone applicator to apply and blend the finishing touches with a Beautyblender.
I spray over my base with finishing spray (listed further down this post) before moving on to the next step. It really helps my makeup stay in place for 12+ hours.
STEP THREE: LIGHT CONTOUR/COLOR
My skills in “contouring” are minimal. I have really sharp cheekbones so I don’t really find it necessary to go crazy. I use this step as a way to bring some color and life to my face. Plus who doesn’t love a pretty highlighter?
CoverGirl bronzer in shade #104 Golden Tan- I lightly dust this under my cheekbones, down the middle of my nose, and create a light heart on my face (forehead connecting to cheekbones).
Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Paaarty-I switch between this blush and drug store blush on a regular basis. I just love how pigmented this blush is. It requires me to use much less of it than I would a drugstore blush (making it last way longer). I apply this along my cheekbones and then blend this and my bronzer with a Beautyblender.
Maybelline Fit Me! Matte + Poreless Powder in shade #100 Translucent- Despite the shade, it’s not really translucent. It has a slight pink/orange tint to it. I use this to help set my bronzer and blush and dust it all over my face lightly.
Urban Decay Naked Illuminated Shimmering Powder in shade Luminous-After the rosewater spray, this is my favorite product I use. It’s the most gorgeous color and incredibly pigmented. It leaves me glowing all day like a fairy princess. If you want a more pink or bronze tone, they have three other shades of this product at Sephora and Ulta.
I top of this layer with my finishing spray once again. Ain’t nobody got time for that oil to ruin all our hard work, am I right?
STEP FOUR: EYES
Fair warning: this step includes eyebrows, eyeshadow, and mascara. All three I apply on a daily basis. Eyeshadow is one of my favorite things to play around with and often is the reason why I’m running late if I’m honest.
Eyebrows:Urban Decay Eyeshadow in shade Twice Bakedand shade Darkheart (included in Naked 3 palette)- I can’t seem to find the perfect shade for my eyebrows so I have to combine the two. I like full eyebrows but I don’t go outside of the lines so I find an eyeshadow works best for me.
Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion in shade Minor Sin-I am all about glitter when it comes to my eyes. I dress in pretty dull colors, nothing too flashy, so I love when my eyes do all of the talking for me. This primer not only holds my eyeshadow on forever but this shade, in particular, also helps boost the pigment. I apply this everywhere my shadow will go (full lid or half lid).
Urban Decay Eyeshadow in shade Snatch-I typically put this all over my lid. It’s got mega glitter and functions as a great base coat. I usually prefer the Burnout shade all over in the Naked 3 palette, but I always run out of it really quickly and this is decently close to that shade (a little lighter with extra glitter). (Sorry, y’all. This product is currently sold out.)
Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette- I use a couple of other palettes, but I will always pledge my loyalty to this one. This current palette (as you can probably tell) has been in my possession for a year and a half. While I have hit pan on a few of the shades, it still has a decent amount of life left in it despite the fact that I use it almost every day. I’ve been using this palette for almost four years and have only had to purchase it twice. I will always love and swear by this.
NYX Matte Finish Setting Spray- Yes, I use this once again. I spray it over my eyes and let them dry before moving on to the next step. If you were keeping count, I use this three times in my routine. My makeup stays on all day long with this bad boy (bonus: it’s less than $10!).
Tarte Opening Act Eyelash Primer-Once again, anything that can help boost my lashes, I will use it. I just put one or two layers of this on before using my mascara.
Benefit Roller Lash Mascara- One of my top two favorite mascaras. This gives you such a pretty doe-eyed look. It really helps open up my eyes as well. I apply one layer and let it dry before applying the rest. This helps add some extra volume. This mascara is great for layering without getting clumpy. I apply to my bottom lashes as well.
And there you have it! My makeup routine takes about 45 minutes (one hour if I am really relaxing… I am pretty slow in the mornings, people). I hope you can take away some of these products and use them or maybe add something new to your makeup routine! x
