I had a conversation with my dad earlier this week that went a little like this…

DAD: You never know, you could start your own PR company one day.

ME: Nah.

Seems simple, done. Right? The reason I said that was not because I don’t want to put in that much work or I don’t feel like I can do it… but that I never even thought about it in the first place. I had come to terms with being in the background, being small. I was always the girl with too many dreams to achieve… so what changed? People often get lost in the current world they are in and forget that more happens beyond it or that they could even do more. Sometimes we can even feel selfish for wanting anything beyond what we have. But since we were made for more, shouldn’t we be dreaming for more?

I have been reading Rachel Hollis’ book, Girl, Wash Your Face, for the past few weeks and it is honestly hitting all of my insecurities and doubts right on the nose. It’s not that I don’t think I can achieve amazing things… it’s that I forget to achieve the amazing things in the first place. In the past six months, I have been in a robot mindset. “Get this done at this time” and checking things off my list. Sure, I’ve been accomplishing things, but I’ve forgotten to ask myself to do more beyond my to-do lists. Take this blog, for example. I’ve been running it… biweekly posts… Instagram posts… done. But I haven’t been pushing myself to go above and beyond the goals I set. We have to stop being okay with being average and start dreaming of what more we can accomplish.

It’s sort of like what Hebrews 6:1 says, “Therefore, let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity.” It’s not that where we are is not enough or that we should be further. It’s just that where we are is enough, but tomorrow, let’s dream of going further. Take your faith. When we first became Christians, we were learning all of this amazing new information. Some of us have even accomplished reading the entire Bible. We go to church every weekend, we serve at church, we tithe, we are in a small group, we read Christian books, we listen to Christian music… but what about your relationship with God beyond Christian culture and theology? You could learn everything about the Bible, know all the lyrics, and still, you can dream up a deeper relationship with God.

Our relationship with God can continue to grow and so can our dreams. God has planted wild, untapped potential and dreams inside each and every one of us. All it takes is prayer and quiet among the busyness to bring your dreams to the surface. Let’s stop dreaming of just being a mom (at some point), but of being a mom to an amazing kid who loves Jesus and has a wonderful relationship with you! Let’s stop dreaming of just getting a job, but being the best at your position and getting those amazing promotions! Let’s stop dreaming the bare minimum and begin to tap into the wonderful awesomeness we all contain.
