If you follow me on Instagram or ready any of my favorites posts, you probably know about my struggle with adult acne that’s been going on for YEARS. I have finally come to the point where I can say I conquered it (or at least have come really close to it). I shared some of the products I am using and my journey on Instagram but I’m here to share more details! Woo! x

Well, I finally changed my dermatologist after over 5 years of struggling with my skin and not getting any results. My doctor and I could not figure out why my face was flaring up so badly nearly every week. I tried countless medications and I was just sick of it. Before I switched dermatologists, I completely stopped medication altogether. I was trying any regimen I could find online and still… no results. And then I got engaged and knew I had to go back to the doctors to figure it out.

My new doctor finally put me on something that worked for me (which I’m not sure why I hadn’t been trying it YEARS ago). I didn’t have to take birth control or do any blood tests with the meds either. It’s just me and my Tiffany blue pill. That medicine and the combination of products I used practically wiped my face clean.

Step 1) Remove that makeup, for good! I use Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water for All Skin Types to remove my makeup every night before I wash my face. THROW AWAY MAKEUP WIPES. They do not work and only leave small cakes of makeup on your face that are hard to see.

Step 2) Wash that face… twice a day. I use Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Daily Foaming Facial Cleanser. It’s perfect for every skin type (even super sensitive) and dermatologist recommended. If you’re looking for a more intense face wash, I use PanOxyl Acne Foaming Wash. It does have Benzoyl Peroxide so it will stain basically everything unless you scrub it off real good.

Step 3) Moisturize that sucker! I have to use a pretty intense moisturizer (dermatologist recommended) because of how dry my skin can get with the creams I use, so I use Vanicream Moisturizing Skin Cream! If you don’t get super dry skin or you are simply just trying to cut down your routine steps, use Neutrogena’s Oil-Free Acne Moisturizer. That one was recommended to me by my dermatologist as well!

Yeah, so I pretty much only do three steps in my routine. I also use creams my dermatologist have prescribed to me. But that’s seriously all you need! Serums, face masks, etc. are overrated.

Skin and especially, adult acne, can be so frustrating and cause literal tears on a regular basis. I know how insecure it can make you feel, but don’t give up. I seriously never thought I’d have a face with two or less pimples at one time again. I honestly believed this would just be my face for the rest of my life. If you feel like you’ve tried everything, try switching doctors or eliminating things out of your skincare routine. Remember that your face is beautiful just the way it is- with or without acne. Sometimes it’s just nice to take some extra care 😉
